2/26/2014

Field for Honda Classic ~PGA Tour
Top Picks
Jeremy's Picks: Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia
Chuck's Picks:  Zach Johnson, Adam Scott, Charl Schwarzel
Drew's Picks:
Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Charl Schwarzel
Matt's Picks:  Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Charl Schwarzel
Cathy's Picks: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott

Dark Horses
(dark horse criteria= outside top 50 on OWGR as of 2/24/14)
Jeremy's Picks:  Jerry Kelly, Cameron Tringale, Camilo Villegas
Chuck's Picks: Paul Casey, Boo Weekley, Charles Howell III
Drew's Picks:
Will McKenzie, Freddie Jacobsen, Chris Stroud

Matt's Picks: Will McKenzie, Luke Guthrie, David Lynn
Cathy's Picks: Brendon deJonge, Robert Garrigus, John Rollins

Jeremy's Picks:
Rory McIlroy - I really like where McIlroy is heading, not to mention that he won here 2 years ago.

Rickie Fowler - Fowler's swing change has really started to come together as shown by his surprising run in the WGC Match Play.  That combined with his excellent play last year at this venue should mean this could be a very good week for him.

Sergio Garcia - This was my spot for Justin Rose, since he wd'd I'm going with Sergio.  He made a little run at the WGC before taking himself out with kindness.

Dark Horse

Jerry Kelly - Kelly has been playing some pretty solid golf this year.  He has also had a few top 20's here including a 3rd place finish in 2011.

Cameron Tringale - He is on the cusp of really breaking through.  Look for a solid week out of him following his excellent play at Riviera.

Camilo Villegas - He has an interesting track record here.  Cut-cut-cut-win-cut...you get the point.  He has only missed one cut this year on the PGA Tour, hopefully that is a sign he is going to win here...or miss the cut.
Chuck's Picks:
Zach Johnson – Not the highest ranked player in the field but certainly the hottest. 3 starts this year and all top tens with a 2nd and 1st included.

Adam Scott – This was a tough pick. But I choose Scott over Woods, McIlroy and Mickelson due to his superb wind play. Don’t be surprised when Adam Scott has the lead come Sunday.

Charl Schwartzel – Great track record at this venue. Last three results were 14th, 5th, 9th. Has played well this year and has no problem in windy conditions. Oh yeah he also plays well before the Masters.

Dark Horse

Paul Casey – Should be eager to get his career back on track after an injury plagued couple of years. Good wind player and finished 6th the last time he played here.

Boo Weekley – Has been playing very good golf as of late. One of the best scramblers on tour which will come in handy this week.

Charles Howell III – Likes this course and has been ever so close this year. I’m banking on at least a top 20 this week and think he gets a win this year at some point.

Drew's Picks:
Rory McIlroy
Rory won the Honda two years ago, WD's last year with a toothache, so can't hold that against him.  He's in fine form, 9th, 2nd, 5th, and 6th in his last four stroke play events.

Graeme McDowell
Graeme is due  for a win, and this could be his week.  3 top 10's in his last three starts at the Honda, his exciting play last week at the WGC shows that his game is in fine shape.

Charl Schwartzel
Charl's record at The Honda is trending upwards, from a T14 to a T9 to a T5.  I like that.  Last stroke play result was a T5 at Riviera two weeks ago.  Looking good to me.

Dark Horse

Will McKenzie
Will McKenzie seems to like Nickalus courses.  He has 6 top 15 finishes in his last 10 starts.. He T5 here in 2009, and T12 in 2010.  A good ball striker and plays par 3's well, both good at the Honda.  He, like many others this week, is a local, and gets to sleep in his own bed, which is nice.

Freddie Jacobson
Freddie "The Junkman" Jacobson has 6 top 30's here, including a 4th, 5th, and a 6th.  His scrambling skills will be key to his success this week.

Chris Stroud
Chris Stroud has never had a MC at the Honda.  His results have included a T9 and a T 13 (2012 and 2013).  So far this season he has two T3's, at Mayakoba and the CIMB Classic, along with 3 MC's a T19 and a 20th.  Nothing jumps out at me in his stats, just a hunch this week.
Matt's Picks:
Rory McIlroy
McIlroy is the 2012 champion of this event and finished 2009 in a tie for 13th. In his last seven starts worldwide, McIlroy has finished 17th or better. He captured a win at the Emirates Australian Open at the end of 2013 and finished 2nd at the Abu Dhabi HSBC event in January. Last week in the Match Play, McIlroy won his opening match, but lost his second round match to a tough opponent in Harris English.

Graeme McDowell
The 15th ranked golfer in the world is finding early success on the PGA Tour this season. He has played in four events on Tour this season, earning T7 or better in each of those starts. He made the round of eight last week and tied for 7th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. In his previous three starts at PGA National, McDowell has finished T9, T9, and T6.

Charl Schwartzel
Schwartzel has visited PGA National the previous three years, earning top fifteen finishes each start. Last season he placed T9 and finished T5 in 2012. Schwartzel has two official starts on the PGA Tour this season. He finished with a solo 5th at the Northern Trust Open, and made it to the second round in the Match Play last week.

Dark Horses:

Will MacKenzie
Will MacKenzie has entered this event five times since 2006, making the cut in all but his first start. He finished 2007 with a top twenty-five, 2009 with a top five, and 2010 with a top fifteen. He comes into this week with a streak of four consecutive cuts made and has six top fifteens on the season. He ranks 13th in scoring average, 2nd in eagles, and 2nd in all-around.

Luke Guthrie
In eight starts this season, Luke Guthrie owns three top twenty-fives, including a T5 at the Shriners event.  He currently ranks 32 on Tour in scoring average and ranks 7th in strokes gained putting.  Guthrie made his first start in this event last season, earning a solo 3rd and shooting a 63 on Friday's round.

David Lynn
Although he hasn't finished better than T48 all season long, he has yet to miss a cut this season.  If Lynn can improve on his ball striking this week, his solid putting stroke could place him at the top of the leaderboard this weekend.  Lynn also made his first start at PGA National last season, placing T4 and shooting sub-par rounds in the final three days.
Cathy's Picks:
Tiger Woods - I'm not usually on the Tiger fan bus, especially when he's been on what some people are calling a slump, but I don't know, I guess.   He's got to turn it around sooner or later, right?

Phil Mickelson - definitely a heart pick this week, and again, not a popular choice based on his recent putting struggles.  But maybe we're going to see a turnaround for Lefty, too, this week. (and it is officially Left-Handers Day today!)

Adam Scott - I had several players in this slot but I kept coming back to Scott and so he's gets it.  He's played some great golf so far in 2014 and I feel like this A-List field is going to inspire him to rise to the top.

Dark Horses:

Brendon deJonge - INSANITY!  I feel like most of my picks are based on hope that they will bounce back from whatever has been ailing them lately, and de Jonge need to break out of his ho-hum play as of late.

Robert Garrigus - I like his passion and it doesn't hurt that he can hit it a mile.  If his streaky putter can get hot and he can hold his emotions together, I've got a feeling Garrigus is going to have a high finish.

John Rollins - this rounds out my heart picks of this week - we've seen some glimses of good play from Rollins, and I'm thinking first out might mean something!

Cathy:
Jason Day
Webb Simpson
Charl Schwarzel
Sergio Garcia
Justin Rose
Matt Kuchar
Hunter Mahan
Dustin Johnson
Jeremy's Picks:
Rory McIlroy (winner) - Rory has found his golf game and confidence after a long off season of practice.  He is the top seed and the player to beat.

Jordan Spieth - Who better to take in a match play event than a player who recently left college.  Young and talented Spieth could shine here.

Jason Day - He has one of the more difficult routes to the title but if anyone can navigate through it, it would be Day.

Dustin Johnson - DJ is on the cusp of winning.  His game is looking good and he has been in contention a lot recently.

Jason Dufner - Dufner has a good enough attitude and low key manner to make it through the 5 day lope.

Graeme McDowell - The Northern Irishman has the game to contend here and the match play experience to go with it.

Sergio Garcia
- Sergio is playing great golf right now, with his improved putting I could definitely see him making a run at the title.

Webb Simpson - He is a pick based mostly on the presumption that many of the players in his section of the bracket are not playing good golf at the moment.  Don't be surprised if a high seed comes out of his little corner.
Drew's Picks:
Bobby Jones:
Webb Simpson
Jason Day

Gary Player:
Matt Kuchar
Jordan Spieth

Ben Hogan:
Ian Poulter
Rory McIlroy

Sam Snead:
Graeme McDowell
Hunter Mahan

Matt's Picks:
Jason Day
Bobby Jones Bracket: In three starts at the Accenture Match Play, Day has finished 3rd last season, T17 in 2012, and T9 in 2011. Day, ranking 11th in the world rankings, has earned six top tens and two top twenty-fives in his last ten starts worldwide. He recently finished 2nd at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Henrik Stenson
Bobby Jones Bracket: Although Stenson hasn't play well at the Match Play event in his last four starts here, he currently is in exceptional form.  He has worked his way up to 3rd in the world golf rankings, won last year's FedEx Cup and the Race to Dubai.  Stenson has two top thirty finishes and four top tens in his last seven starts worldwide.  Stenson won this event in 2007 and took 3rd in 2008.

Matt Kuchar  (winner)
Gary Player Bracket: Kuchar has one of the best track records here over the last three years. Last season Kuchar won this event, the year prior he made the round of eight, and in 2011 he finished 3rd. Kuchar may be coming off a missed cut, but I think the extra rest before this event will actually help. I expect another good performance from Kuchar this week.

Jordan Spieth
Gary Player Bracket: Spieth is having a great sophomore season, earning a runner-up in the Hyundai TOC and four other top twenty-fives.  So far this season, Spieth has seemed to struggle on "moving day" shooting rounds in the 70's in four of six Saturdays he has played.  With the change in format, I think the aggressive youngster should fair well.

Sergio Garcia
Ben Hogan Bracket: Garcia comes into the Accenture Match Play in great form. He has not finished outside of the top twenty in his last nine starts worldwide. He has two victories and a runner-up in his last four starts. Garcia made the final four in 2010 and has made the round of sixteen on three other occasions.

Harris English
Ben Hogan Bracket: Harris English has started out the 2013-2014 season on fire, and doesn't appear to be slowing down.  He has yet to miss a cut in nine starts, won the Mayakoba event, and owns four other top ten finishes.  He currently sits in 3rd on the FedEx Standings and is coming off a top ten at the Northern Trust Open.

Hunter Mahan
Sam Snead Bracket: Hunter Mahan is my pick for the very tough Snead bracket. Although he is coming off a disappointing showing at the Northern Trust Open, he still owns three top fifteens on the season and has yet to miss a cut. Mahan has faired well in this match play event, earning a runner-up last year, a victory in 2012 and a T9 in 2011.

Hideki Matsuyama
Sam Snead Bracket: Matsuyama has finished T28 or better in his last sixteen events worldwide if you throw out his withdrawal from the HSBC Champions event.  In his last three starts on the PGA Tour, he owns a T23 at the Northern Trust Open, a T4 at the Waste Management Open, and a T16 at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Chuck's Picks:
Snead
Bubba Watson – fresh off a victory and well suited for aggressive shot making type tournament

Hunter Mahan (winner) – Ryder cup experience should help this week and can grind with the best of them.

Jones

Webb Simpson – Has been the most consistent all year and should be the man to beat in this bracket

Billy Horschel – Could be the Cinderella story in the Bobby Jones Bracket. Flying under the radar at #10 seed.

Player
Scott Stallings – long hitter and aggressive play make him a sleeper in this format.

Jordan Speith – Match play debut but has the tenacity to succeed.

Hogan
Harris English – I can’t ignore his great play this year but he does have a tough road ahead.

Ian Poulter – While I don’t particularly care for him it’s hard to bet against him in any match play event.

Cathy's Picks:
Jason Day - (winner)  It's never easy when my heart is torn!  I had to give up one of my favorite players for Top 8, but I went with my gut on this one and decided to pick Day for the 2014 WGC winner.    I feel like his bracket is suited for him to make the finals and then take the win home.

Webb Simpson - As 5th seed, he's got to get past FedEx Cup winner Stenson, but I think he's playing some solid golf this year. (on my bracket I have him losing to Day in the quarters).

Charl Schwarzel - I'm not even sure why Schwarzel makes it past McIlory on my bracket, but he does! (I think he falls to Day in the Semi's).  I think his good finish last week makes me think he could do well this week.

Sergio Garcia - I really wanted to pick Haas to beat Garcia, but I think his passion and risk/reward attitude will take him far in the Match Play.

Justin Rose - I know his play last week doesn't exactly lend itself to say he should make the Quarters in the Match Play, but Rose loves a challenge, and I think he's got a good bracket to make it to the 8's (and then lose to Matt!).

Matt Kuchar - I've got to think last week was just a weird hiccup on what has otherwise been one of the most steady strings of golf in a long time!    I think Matt goes to the finals.

Hunter Mahan - Steady golf can be a key here - he's proven himself in Match Play so it's hard not to see him going far here.

Dustin Johnson - I'm using the "go with the hot guy" theory on DJ - you cannot deny his great play in the past few weeks, and he's got the game to put the pressure on his opponent.

Field for the Northern Trust Open - PGA Tour
Top Picks
Matt's Picks:  Dustin Johnson, Graham Delaet, Hunter Mahan
Cathy's Picks: Matt Kuchar, Bill Haas, Keegan Bradley
Chuck's Picks:  Jimmy Walker, Bill Haas, Dustin Johnson
Drew's Picks:
Jimmy Walker, Dustin Johnson, Graham Delaet
Jeremy's Picks: Bill Haas, Keegan Bradley, Jimmy Walker

Dark Horses
(dark horse criteria= outside top 50 on OWGR as of 12/1/13)
Matt's Picks: Kevin Na, Thorbjorn Olesen, Aaron Baddeley
Cathy's Picks: John Merrick, Harris English, Bryce Molder
Chuck's Picks: Charles Howell III, Fred Couples, Thorbjorn Olesen
Drew's Picks:
Kevin Na, Tim Wilkinson, Pat Perez
Jeremy's Picks:  Harris English, KJ Choi, Aaron Baddeley

Read below for why our Pro's picked who they did!!
Matt's Picks:
Dustin Johnson
Johnson shot a round of 66 last Sunday to propel him into the runner-up position at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. In three official events on the season, Johnson has a victory, a T6 finish, and a runner-up finish. He has made the trip to Riviera CC six times, earning three top ten finishes. In 2012, Johnson finished T4.

Graham DeLaet
DeLaet has four straight top ten finishes coming into this week. His previous two starts have both resulted in runner-up finishes. He currently ranks 5th in strokes gained putting, 6th in greens hit, 4th in driving distance, and 2nd in scoring average. DeLaet has played at Riviera CC the last two seasons, earning a T44 finish in 2012 and a T21 last season.

Hunter Mahan

Mahan has earned paychecks in five of his previous six trips to the Northern Trust Open. He finished 2012 in a tie for 24th and ended in a tie for 8th last season. Mahan currently ranks 2nd in strokes gained putting and 7th in scoring average. Last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he finished in 6th and finished tied for 4th the week prior.

Dark Horses:
Kevin Na
Before missing the cut at this event last season, Na made six consecutive cuts before that. He finished tied for 25th in 2009, tied for 10th in 2010, and ended 2011 with a solo 3rd place finish. Na has already secured his spot on Tour this season, earning the necessary amount from his medical exemption. He has a streak of five consecutive cuts coming into the Northern Trust Open, and finished the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 4th place. He has three top tens on the season, and another top twenty.

Thorbjorn Olesen
Olesen recently finished the Commercialbank Qatar Masters with a 3rd place finish, and followed that up with a 5th place finish in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.  Olesen currently ranks 60th in the world and will be making his first start on the 2013-2014 PGA Tour season.  On the European Tour, Olesen ranks in the top thirty in stroke average, driving distance, and greens in regulation.

Aaron Baddeley
Baddeley's results haven't been overly impressive this season, but he does have three straight made cuts coming into this week.  His best finish this season was 5th at the CIMB Classic, which is higher than any finish last season.  Baddeley currently ranks 4th in strokes gained putting.  If he can improve on his ball striking this week, I could see him in the mix on the weekend.  Baddeley has only missed on cut at Riviera in his last six trips, which includes a victory and a T11.
Cathy's Picks:
Matt Kuchar
It's Valentine's week, so I might as well start with a HEART PICK.  And if you know me, you know Kuch is close to my heart all the time.  I'm putting a little faith in Matt since he hasn't had great finishes here in the past, but he did have a 64 in the first round last year, so there's hope!  And he's had 3 top 10's in his last 3 starts.

Bill Haas
I could call Haas a Heart Pick, too, but there are all kinds of reasons to pick him this week: T3 in '13, Playoff win in '12 and a T12 in '11.  Riviera is a track fit for Haas.

Keegan Bradley
My first instinct was to go with Jimmy Walker, but instead I'm going with the OTHER GUY who knocked me out of the Make the Cut Challenge over at Buzz Fantasy Leagues.  I forgive you Keegan, now go out and win!!  Need a better reason to pick Bradley?  All finishes execpt for the ugly 80 at the WMO (MC) have been T18 or better and in '12 he was in the playoff that Haas won.

Dark Horses:
John Merrick - since I'm in the basement of the Dark Horse stats, I'm going all out to get some points, so why not pick the Defending champion?  Hopefully he'll be inspired coming back to Riviera.

Harris English - English took some time off after a 9th place finish at the WMO,   Doesn't have a lot of history here, but I think this could be his 2nd win of the 2013-14 season.

Bryce Molder - coming off of a T10 at the AT&T and having 2 top 25 finishes here in the past few starts gives me hope that Molder can get me some points this week!

Chuck's Picks:Jimmy Walker – I can’t resist riding Walker back to back weeks. I mean why not ….He’s only won three times already this year and now gets to tee it up at his favorite golf course.

Bill Haas – Former champ is definitely fond of Riviera. No missed cuts this year but really hasn’t hit his stride yet. I wouldn’t bet against him this week and expect him to be atop the leaderboard come Sunday.

Dustin Johnson – DJ seems to be getting along pretty well with his future father in law, Wayne Gretsky. That made for a relaxed stroll around Pebble Beach on Sunday where he finished 2nd. Has had success at Riviera.

Dark Horses:
Fred Couples – I guess this is somewhat of a heart pick as Cathy would call it. The first time Freddie teed it up here Ronald Reagan was President. Now he’ll be playing for his 32nd  time at this event. Here’s hoping Boom Boom can catch lightning in a bottle one more time.

Charles Howell III – No missed cuts, five top tens this year, and a former champ at Riviera. That’s all I need to see to put Chucky in my lineup this week. Expect good things!

Thorbjorn Olesen – Don’t ask. Call it a hunch. Playing for the first time on the PGA tour this year and playing Riviera for the first time as well. He plays well on tough courses and could be getting psyched to return to Augusta where he finished 6th last year.
Jeremy's Picks:
Bill Haas - Haas is an annual contender here and also a past champion. This course definitely seems to suit his game.

Keegan Bradley - Bradley has had two strong finishes here over the past two years including a T-2 in 2012.

Jimmy Walker - He is on fire and has to be one of your D choices in a yahoo league.

Dark Horse
Harris English -He has the type of presence that I can see winning at a course with such great history.

KJ Choi - He has had a decent start to the year carding a T2 in San Diego. Choi has placed in the top 10 at Riviera 3 times since 2008.

Aaron Baddeley - Although he missed the cut here last year his to prior starts at the Northern Trust earned him an 11th place finish and a victory.
Drew's Picks:
Jimmy Walker:
I missed getting on Jimmy's bus last week, but now I'm on board 'till the wheels fall off, which may be when the Tour leaves CA for the Florida swing next week.  Jimmy says the NTO is his favorite tournament of the year, good enough for me.

Dustin Johnson:
Dustin seems to run hot and cold at the NTO.  In his last four starts, he's finished 3rd, MC, 4th, MC.  I see a pattern here.  Dustin leads the Tour in GIR, Eagles, Birdie Avg, Par 4 Birdie or better, and 3rd in Par 5 birdie or better.  His accuracy off the tee could be better, he'll need to drop back to his 290 yard 3-wood now and then to keep the ball in the fairway maybe.

Graham DeLaet:
Graham DeLaet is having a great start to his 2014 season, 7th, 6th, 2nd and 2nd in the first four events he's played.  His GIR, Strokes Gained Putting and Birdie Avg are all in the top 10.  His ball striking might get him a win this week, surely a top 10.

Dark Horses:
Kevin Na:
Kevin confirmed he's back from his injury with a T4 last week at Pebble Beach.  He has done well here, a T10 in 2010 and a 3rd in 2011.

Tim Wilkinson:
Tim Wilkinson finished 7th last week at Pebble Beach.  He does have two top 10's in his last eight starts, but also has 4 MC's!  This is a hunch, a true DH!

Pat Perez:
Pat Perez has improved his, let's say, attitude on the course recently, and it's shown in his results.  He has finished 2nd, 11th, T7, 58th-oops-and 8th this season.  Pat is playing in his home state, under conditions he's used to.  That should get him at least a top 15 in my book, which isn't bad against a very good field.

Jeremy's Picks:  Hunter Mahan, Graeme McDowell, Jason Day
Matt's Picks:  Hunter Mahan, Jason Day, Jordan Speith

Cathy's Picks:  Dustin Johnson, Jimmy Walker, Hunter Mahan
Chuck's Picks:
Jimmy Walker, Jason Day, Hunter Mahan
Drew's Picks: Jason Day, Graeme McDowell, Dustin Johnson

Dark Horses
(dark horse criteria= outside top 50 on OWGR as of 12/1/13)
Jeremy's Picks:  Patrick Reed, James Driscoll, Pat Perez
Matt's Picks:  Matt Jones, Pat Perez, Will McKenzie

Cathy's Picks: Freddie Jacobson, Jerry Kelly, Greg Chalmers
Chuck's Picks:
Matt Jones, Bryce Molder, Spencer Levin
Drew's Picks:  Patrick Reed, Kevin Stadler, Kevin Na

Read below for why our Pro's picked who they did!!
Jeremy's Picks:
Hunter Mahan - Seems to have gotten into the swing of things with a tie for 4th in Phoenix.  He has finished in the top 16 the past 3 years at the AT&T and should be an asset for your team this week.

Graeme McDowell - Beginning his 2014 season here for the first time since winning the US Open at Pebble Beach.  McDowell has finished in the top 15 in his last 3 events played and should not be overlooked this week.

Jason Day - He has 2 top 10 finishes here over the past few years.  His only tournament of 2014 was a tie for 2nd at the Farmers.  His hot play should continue here.

Dark Horses:
Patrick Reed - Its kind of hard to call Reed a dark horse with the 3 top 20's he has posted this year including a win at the Humana.

James Driscoll - He has been kind of hit and miss this year with many low rounds accompanied by a few high rounds.  He finished in 9th here last year and should be able to put together more low rounds than high.

Pat Perez - Perez has seemed to gain a little maturity recently, and that has translated in a positive way to the golf course.  Over his past 4 events he has accumulated 3 top 15 finishes.
Matt's Picks:
Hunter Mahan - Mahan looked good last week at the WMO and finished strong to earn a tie for 4th. He was 2nd in the field for stroked gained putting at Scottsdale, and tied for 12th in greens hit. This will be Mahan's third start of the season. He has played well in this event the previous three years, earning T16 or better. In 2011, Mahan placed runner-up behind D.A. Points.

Jason Day  - This will be Day's second start on the season, after placing 2nd in the Farmers Insurance Open. His ball striking was on mark at Torrey Pines, hitting over 76% of greens on the week. If Day can improve on his putting this week, we should see him in contention on Sunday. Day has played in this event on four occasions, earning two 6th place finishes and another top fifteen.

Jordan Spieth - After missing the cut in the Sony Open, Spieth got right back to business earning a top twenty at the Farmers Insurance Open. After having a week off, I expect Spieth to continue his world class play. Spieth played in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last season, earning a tie for 22nd place.

Dark Horses:

Matt Jones -  Matt Jones is coming off a T12 at the Waste Management Open, where he co-led the tournament after Friday. He has made five of six cuts on the season, including two top fifteen performances in the last month. Jones has entered the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am six times since 2008. He placed T30 here last season, had a top fifteen in 2011, and finished with a top ten in 2010.
Pat Perez - Pat Perez has a ton of experience at this event, playing in it eleven times.  Although he hasn't had great success here as of late, he did finish runner-up in 2002 and has only missed two cuts.  You can't ignore Perez's current trend, earning top fifteens in four of his last five starts.  Last week at the Waste Management Open, Perez narrowly missed a top ten finishing in solo 11th.
Will MacKenzie - Will MacKenzie is two for two at this event, earning a T35 in 2010 and a T27 in 2006.  MacKenzie has started off the 2013-2014 PGA Tour season in fine form.  He already has five top fifteen finishes, including two top tens.  MacKenzie currently sits in 30th on the FedEx standings, ranks 10th in scoring average, 10th in birdie average, and 2nd in eagles.  If he makes the cut this week, his trend indicates a high finish.
Cathy's Picks:
Dustin Johnson - call this a heart pick, or maybe just a gut feeling that after posting 2 top 10's in his only other 2 events so far in this wrap around season, I have a feeling that DJ will be able to contend on the weekend.  He also has a win here in 2010, and a T5 in 2012.

Hunter Mahan - He flew under the radar for most of the week at the WMO but was in the hunt on Sunday.  Ball striking is great, and from what I read, his putts just weren't dropping.  He's got a couple Top 20's at this event along with a solo 2nd place in 2011.

Jimmy Walker - I'm blaming his missed cut at the Farmers on the "Tiger Effect" (being paired with him for 2 days) and with 3 top 10's at the AT&T over the past 3 years, he's proven he can play this course.  This is also my way of forgiving him for making me get knocked out of the Make the Cut Challenge!!

Dark Horses:

Freddie Jacobson -
The Junk Man (as Drew calls him) may be my new de Jonge!  For some reason I just feel like he's going to break through in '14 - and there's a lot of trouble at Pebble, so he can put his Junk Skills to work!  He did WD from the Farmer's a few weeks ago with an undisclosed injury but is still listed in the field this week.

Jerry Kelly -
He's only play the AT&T 1 time in recent years, and that was a CUT, but he's been playing pretty good this year so far and I think he might like the Pro-Am atmosphere of it all.  We might just want to call this a Heart Pick!

Greg Chalmers - the last time he played this even was 2010 (T-35), but the guy has been putting great this year and with 2 top 15's already in the 13-14 season, I think he's a solid Top 25 finisher this week.
Chuck's Picks:
Jimmy Walker – Definitely a horse for this course with three straight top tens at this venue. Also comes in with a hot hand having already won this year.

Jason Day – The clean cut hair is having a positive influence. 2nd at Torrey Pines this year and 6th at Pebble last year. I like his chances.

Hunter Mahan – Mahan finished 4th last week at Scottsdale and has a great track record at Pebble. Most definitely the cream of the yahoo B list this week.

Dark Horses:
Matt Jones – Hasn’t missed a cut yet this year and his ball striking is superb. Loves this venue and should be in contention

Bryce Molder – Maybe a bit of a stretch but does have two top tens at Pebble in the last four years and no missed cuts. Call it a hunch.

Spencer Levin – Another longshot here but should have some fans in his home state. Finished 9th here in 2012 and should have a chance as long as they don’t ban smoking on the course.
Drew's Picks:
Jason Day:   Jason Day has two sixth place finishes in his 4 appearances at the ATT, and a T2 at Torrey Pines recently.  His last 4 tournaments have yielded finishes of 1st, 2nd, sixth and 9th.  Course form and current form point to a win this week for Jason.

Graeme McDowell: Graeme McDowell hasn't played a tournament since Tiger's Sherwood event in early December, but is returning to where he won the US Open in 1010=good vibes.  He's shooting for a spot on Europe's Ryder Cup Team, so he needs some great golf this season.  A lack of wind should help his great iron play this week.

Dustin Johnson: Dustin Johnson has won this tournament twice.  His MC last year doesn't worry me, he's a streaky player.  He's paired in the ProAm with father-in-law to be Wayne Gretzky, should be fun to watch.  Dustin popped up at #1 on my predictor model, better than a Majic 8-ball!

Dark Horses:
Patrick Reed:  Patrick Reed had a T7 here last year, and he's a better player now.  His recent win at the Humana was also a Pro-Am event, so he must be comfortable with the format.  A momentum pick for me this week.

Kevin Stadler:  I've been watching "Mini-Walrus" Kevin Stadler steadily improving for the past few years.  I hang out a bit with his mom at the 3M Championship every year when Craig is up here playing, and I'm sure Kevin's win last week did a lot to offset Denver's SB loss Sunday--the Stadlers live right outside of Denver. His win gets him into the Masters, wouldn't it be cool if they paired father/son the first two rounds?  Kevin leads the tour in Total Driving, which should keep his ball on the fairways, near the greens.  And he finished 3rd here last year, which is nice.

Kevin Na:  Kevin Na is just a hunch this week, no dartboard involved.  Kevin has played well enough this year to get off his Major Medical Extension.  He had a T5 here in  2012.  I think he's back to being a fantasy golf asset.  Plus, I had two "Ryans" picked last week, now I have two "Kevins."  Hopefully one of them pans out!
