WHOOPS - wasn't able to check in a few weeks in a row! This is what happens when work & vacation gets in the way of golf!
Let me just say that while my picks haven't been awesome but enough to get me by! My WGC bracket, though, was not good!! YAY for Jason Day for winning!

Week #9: WGC- Cadillac Championship It's Tuesday and I'm looking at the field of 66 and wondering how I decide who to pick?! We're at Doral and that means doing some research on the course and who has played well here should be a plan. But to date, the past winners haven't exactly been the mainstays at the course they are playing - I've been trying to use that theory and it hasn't been working! On PGA Tour you've got to save some guys for the Masters and even now, we're only in March and I've got some guys I've used 3 times already for the 10 limit Yahoo game. And Buzz is only 8 picks so this could be tough. But with so many good players it might be time to take a risk and put in a sleeper. Off to research!

Week #8: Honda Classic Wow - didn't even have a chance to write last week - some days work and life get in the way of fantasy golf! It was a tough week for picking for me for the Honda, but I'm grateful I stuck with Adam Scott - THANK YOU ADAM! But again, I had 4 players not playing the weekend. Also, SADLY, I'm out of the Buzz Fantasy Leagues Make the Cut Challenge because Matsuyama WD'd ...I'll be bitter for awhile (just ask Jimmy Walker & Jason Dufner!) Oh well - made it to the top 23 anyway! It was tough to move to 2nd place last week, but I'm back to a close first place again thanks to the Scott win. On to the Valspar this week!

Week #7: Northern Trust Open (Sunday) Congratulations Bubba Watson!! It was a great field and a great final round with some early runs but in the end it was steady play that won out. And despite my best efforts, I did drop to 2nd in Fantasy Golf. The standings are tight!! We'll see what happens next week. (Wednesday) I'm having a hard time this week with my picks! Matsuyama got sick, hasn't withdrawn, but not probably not on his A-game...Rory is just coming to the US and this is a tough course, many are recommending keeping limited picks for later in the season. I picked DJ for my Make the Cut, but last week makes me a little nervous. I'm feeling Justin Rose!! I hope that's a good feeling. Bubba has been on and off my squads at least two times today! Good thing this is on the west coast, we might see another last minute switch Thursday morning. Good Luck!

Week #6: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am Watching the final round right now. Was hoping for a run by Phil (even though he wasn't on my Fantasy Golf Team) but he's struggling right now. How about Vaughn Taylor!! Loved Vaughn back in the day and actually thought about putting him on my Golf Radar Team this week but he just hadn't been doing much (until this week!). This was an AWFUL fantasy golf week for me...Saturday, 0 points and I had all 4 guys live.. GEEZ. But Patrick Reed is going to give me a few points, along with Jordan Spieth. (Tuesday) This might be one of those weeks were I make last minutes changes to the roster. It feels like there are going to be a lot of duplicate picks this week so I may need to dig a little deeper in the field to find the right players. I'm most nervous about picking my Make the Cut guy now that I'm down to only 1 team! Weather should be lovely and the courses are beautiful!

Week #5: Final Round: Another Wow finish! Sad for Rickie Fowler but a great playoff and a great weekend to watch. Attendance records were shattered and it was great weather there, too. Congratulations to Hideki Matsuyama on his win! (once again I was a few weeks early on my pick!) Saturday: Not a great week in Fantasy Golf land! Looks like I'm going to drop like a leaf after this week...Felt like I had some good players, but as has been the norm the past few weeks, a few guys not even on my radar are making moves. Dufner knocked one of my teams out of Make The Cut, but Bubba kept me alive! Now there is even MORE pressure from here on out. Hoping JB Holmes will make a move today to give me some points. I'm totally out on the C group in Yahoo...victim of Heart Pick! Going to have to re-group for next week.

Week#4: Monday FInal: WOW! What an example of what weather can do to the golf game. Congrats to Brandt Snedeker for winning! And here I was BEGGING him to make the cut so I could stay alive in the Make the Cut Challenge. 23 golfer shot 80 or worse in the final round - only 2 players had Even or better. Another interesting week of picks for me - I'm VERY excited to see who the rest of the guys picked once they are posted. As you might have guessed, the heart was involved. this week. :) (Round 2) - THANK YOU Phil Mickelson & Jason Dufner! I'm just a tad nervous about Patrick Reed in my Make the Cut League, but hopefully he'll have a good Saturday. Matt Kuchar is looking good, too and I have Bill Haas on the bench so he may need to come in on Sunday if he keeps up his great play. Really hoping to stay in the mix on the weekend. (FINAL): WAY TO GO Jason Dufner! Dufner was on my squad all week and came through on the 2nd playoff hole of sudden death against David Lingmerth. Dufner needed to make a 10 footer for par to get past the first playoff hole and then caught a break when he watched Lingmerth put his 2nd shot in the water. All my guys made the cut, but wished I would have had Na in my C group. We'll see where we end up in final points. FINAL - WHAT??!! Moved into first place! It's a miracle!! WOO HOO! (we know this won't last so I'm going to revel in it for now.).
Week #2: The Sony Open started slowly, Matt Kuchar and Jimmy Walker both made the weekend right on the cut line , but Kuchar's 62 on Saturday put him T6 going into the weekend. Gary Woodland was a good Group A pick for me (especially since Henley missed the cut!) I kept Jason Duffner on the bench all week, but I liked what I saw from him! Bummed for Snedecker for not finishing with a win, but Fabian Gomez was clutch in the playoff. Kuchar disappointed a little, as well as Woodland on Sunday, but I moved up a place in our group! YES!
Week #1: So, it's sort of the way it goes with these guys - I'm in last place after the Hyundai TOC. I swear, if I had put my whole bench in the active spots I would have had at least 40 more points! But, lesson learned. Jeremy was the early leader in rounds 1 & 2, but then Drew came through by switching in Spieth who he had on the bench. Let's hope I can redeem myself! Week #2 here we come!

Happy 2016 Fantasy Golf Season!
I'll be honest - while I love fantasy golf, there usually comes a time (often by March) when I'll forget to post my picks for the week. For the leagues that are season long competitions, this is a killer! You can keep trying for some possible weekly or segment wins, it really takes some dedication and time to make sure picks are submitted each week.
I'm hopeful that I'll keep up this year, especially since I'm doing a private Yahoo league with some online golf pals.
And for those of you that know me, my heart is strong as ever and the heart picks will be coming!! Thanks for stopping by and GOOD LUCK!!

Welcome to the Fantasy Golf Section of Hope Joy Golf!
While there are a few Fantasy Golf sites that started at the beginning of the 2015-16 season, several are getting going with the Hyundai TOC or the Sony Open.
I have registered for the following Fantasy Golf Sites:Yahoo GolfNot my favorite league format because of the focus on daily scores instead of the final overall (there is a bonus, but it's still about daily low scores), but it does have a nice private league section with message boards and segment scoring.
PGA Tour (sponsored by Avis) FantasyThe PGA Tour league has already started so I'm late to this game but it looks new and improved from the past versions. You are still able to have up to 3 teams and it looks like there are 4 active players with 2 bench players you can bring in. You can only use a golfer 3 times per segment so that will make it a little more thoughtful...AND the scoring is quite complicated! All kinds of stats are used to earn points, so it may require a little more research each week. The first few weeks in January will be practice since this segment started last fall. Segment 2 started the first week in February (WMO).
If I find any more sites pop up I'll let you know - or if you know of some please let me know! Thanks!! |
Buzz Fantasy LeaguesI'm a fan of Buzz!! They have free leagues as well as pay leagues and the option to have private leagues (for a fee I think). They also have the Make the Cut Challenge - where you simply pick a player each week and if he makes the cut you're still alive! It sounds simple, but it will drive you bonkers at times! I think the statute of limitations is up on my being mad at Jimmy Walker for missing 1 cut a few years ago...the week I picked him! And this year they are partnering with Rockbottom Golf to have a nice prize pool.
Golf Channel FantasyGolf Channel is pretty straight forward - 1 guy from 4 different groups - and then you're on your own! I remember having some pretty awful weeks in the last few years!
