Posted Sep 30 2010, 12:42 PM by Cathy Erickson What in the...? It's already September 30! It seems like just yesterday I was looking forward to my favorite golf month of the year and now, just like that, it's over. I had some fun days golfing this past month, and even though we had a few rainy days, I was able to get out on the course for at least 9 holes whenever I didn't have to work late (which was too often if you asked me!). The sun setting earlier has been a total drag. By 7pm it's very hard to see the golf balls and there is a definite chill in the air by that time, too. How can daylight savings time not be until November 7??? This does not help golfers in Minnesota at all!! If we could get that extra hour NOW, I'd be a lot happier. I am hoping to have at least one golf road trip in the beginning of October and get in as many rounds as I can on our course before it closes. There are a couple fun events planned, but I'm not sure what kind of turnout we are going to get...I'm always surprised at how many folks put their clubs away after Labor Day. But not me! I'm in it until I need mittens.
I am also looking forward to a rematch with one of my favorite golf pals...me from the white tees, him from the blues. With the weather looking decent but cool, I think this could be happening next week. I'd better start praying now! Switching gears for a few minutes... I think I have finally gotten over the disappointment of the Tour Championship. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for Furyk, and I still believe the "playoffs" are still good for the PGA Tour, but not seeing my two favorite players in the hunt over the weekend was tough. I had such high expectations for Matt Kuchar and Steve Stricker!! But I don't care what anyone else says, Matt Kuchar gets MY player of the year, no matter what. I'm also excited that the Q-school process has begun...so many dreamers, so many stories. Pre-Qualifying has finished and Stage One will be starting in about 3 weeks. I'm following several Minnesota players, but believe me, you will find golfers from every state and from all parts of the world trying to make it to the final stage for the chance to get their PGA Tour card...so jump in, find some players and cheer them on. I actually looked into when & where some of the second stage events were just to see if I could make a golf trip out of it, but my work schedule just can't make it work. I'll be counting on Sam Johnson to head back to Craig Ranch to get us some scoops! HEY - it's Ryder Cup time!! You know I'm a gal that's crazy about team events, so this is one of my favorite events of the year. We all know that Team USA is going in as the underdog, but I've got a feeling that with the right pairings we might see some magic over in Wales. Be sure to check out the Ryder Cup thread in the forum and let us know what you think! The first round pairings have been posted there (which are pretty interesting!), and there are links to where you can get streaming coverage online, too. I'm still holding out hope for a Kuchar-Stricker pairing!! I'll be getting up at 1:45CT to catch all the action - I know 2Putt has it right with the whole DVR thing, but there is nothing better than seeing it live. And hey, let's not forget the Fall Series coming up. I know, I know, no A-list fields, baseball playoffs are on, and we're still busy trying to figure out when Tiger will make his comeback to pay much attention. But there are stories to be told and guys fighting to keep their tour cards...so in between all the other fall drama, take a few minutes to follow the final 5 events of the season. (PS...my friends over at http://www.kerplookee.com/ are still having fantasy golf through the fall series! Stop over and sign up - it's free!) I'm sad to see September go because my heart is battling between the panic of seeing my season end and the joy of reminiscing of another great golf season in Minnesota. The good news is the weather forecast for the next 10 days has sunshine in it so it's time to layer up and get in as much golf as I can. AuthorWhen I found Tees2Greens website and forum I found a happy place. There were great people there and in 2009 they asked me if I wanted my own blog space. It was a dream come true!! The site is down now, but I was able to get all of my posts to be able to post here. I will always be grateful for all of the Tees2Greens folks!! ArchivesCategories
