Fred Couples...Overrated??

Last Sunday, Fred Couples won the Senior British Open by 2 strokes, going birdie-birdie on 17 and 18.  I'll be honest, I didn't even know it was the Senior British Open weekend, and I didn't know that Couples had won until I read it on my Facebook feed.  I immediately shared that news with all of my friends because I was happy for Freddie! I have been on the Fred Couples fan bus since I was in high school.  Okay, granted, maybe there's a little part of me that likes him because he's cute, but come on, that swing is like butter!!

Is it too early to talk about the Masters?

Oh, I'm there...and now my brain has burned into it the beautiful views from Augusta National since I visited http://www.masters.com/ and saw a nice flyover of part of the course.  Can you smell the azaleas?  I can.

As I say every year, Masters week is my favorite week of the year.  I'm usually busy with our last curling event of the season and hopefully watching our final snow melting, but I can already guarantee you that I will be home on the couch for the duration of the final round and will not be answering my phone.  Last year I had the TV on and my lap top streaming Augusta's live coverage just to make sure I didn't miss a thing.

There are already 98 players who have qualified to play this year (April 7-10, 2011), with 17 of them being first time Masters participants.  There are 19 different categories in which player can qualify to play.  Major winners, top money earners, PGA Tour winners, and top 16 finishers in last year's Masters are just some of the ways a player can get their invite.  Tiger Woods still leads the pack by qualifying in 7 of the 19 categories.  Zach Johnson is right behind him with 6 qualifying categories, followed by a small group, including Matt Kuchar and Steve Stricker, meeting 5 of the qualifiers.

I love the Masters.

Golf Overload

Do you ever have a time where sometimes you're just on a golf overload?  I think the Masters does that to me every year.  Once again we had a fantastic tournament that not only brought out the best in players, but it also kept us on the edge of our sofas.  I know that even though we weren't together, my Mom and I were both standing up and clapping for Phil as he made his putt on 18.  It's what we do.

The Best Golf Week of the Year!

We're just a few short hours from getting our first live golf action from the 2010 Masters...the Par-3 contest.  I don't know about you, but I'm almost giddy with anticipation.  Five days of golf heaven for me - the beauty, the tradition, the drama, and the reverence for the game.

Once again, though, life is getting in the way of my happy place.  If you remember last year, I had my refrigerator catastrophe elbowing into my Masters time.  I was not happy!  This year, it's a curling event on Saturday that requires more attention than I had hoped to give.  But I promise you, I will be on my sofa on Sunday afternoon for arguably the best 5 hours of golf of the year.

Three Days of Golf Heaven (part 2)

Thursday morning my brother and I were up and at the course by 9:00am (the parking pass was awesome!).  It was another warm day in MN and the winds had already started to pick up.  We checked out the pairing sheets and realized that all of the players we wanted to see were all on one side in both the morning and afternoon.  We knew Tiger was on the back side and had just teed off, so we made our way to the green on the par-3 17th hole to watch for the morning.

Priorities...

My refrigerator died yesterday.  I sort of knew it was coming, but the strange noises it had been making had stopped a few days ago so I figured it had just cured itself.  Apparently you should not ignore the "code blue" noises your appliances make.  After an hour or so of throwing away all of my formerly frozen treasures I realized that I have to shop for a new refrigerator - now.

It's All About the Numbers

I'm thinking about numbers today...actually, I think about numbers every day.  My signature line on my emails at my old job was "Numbers are my Friends" (wow, that's probably got therapy session written all over it now that I see it!)  Anyway, I've decided that one of the reasons I'm probably crazy about golf is that it's all about the numbers!

I've Found a Happy Place

I needed to go to a happy place this week.  We have had three days of rain, which turned into ice, and the gloomy weather has put a damper on my golf enthusiasm.  It's easy to get depressed this time of year...the transition into spring can be very slow and it seems we become prisoners of Mother Nature.  If it were golf season I'd make my way to my local course.  Even walking around without a club in my hand is enough for me - I'm happy there.  But the snow is still hanging around and the soggy ground needs time to dry up and prepare for the upcoming season - it's not ready to be my happy place.

When I found Tees2Greens website and forum I found a happy place.  There were great people there and in 2009 they asked me if I wanted my own blog space.  It was a dream come true!!  The site is down now, but I was able to get all of my posts to be able to post here.  I will always be grateful for all of the Tees2Greens folks!!
