Happy New Year friends…and happy 2013 golf season! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to a new year full of great golf! I faintly remember writing a “resolution” post about this time last year so I looked it up and read it. A year ago I appeared to be motivated, but as I look back at 2012, I hit more than my share of stumbling blocks…I am one of the 85% who generally failed. But not completely! And that’s what gives me hope once again as we start the 2013 journey. What I wrote a year ago makes sense, and the experts that know about goal making and being successful at it give us wise guidance. Small attainable goals, write your goals down, don’t give up, and find support – all good stuff!

We knew it was coming. The PGA Tour has made no bones about the fact that Q-School, as we knew it, would cease to exist in the near future. Back in March, the PGA Tour announced the basic framework of how the new "path to the PGA Tour" would be designed, but they were still working out the details on how exactly the 50 Tour Cards would be distributed. Here's what I got out of the articles I read on http://www.pgatour.com/: Posted Mar 08 2012, 12:23 PM by Cathy Erickson
There's nothing like good old fashioned competition to make things more exciting. And in 2012 I think that's what we're getting on the PGA Tour. Usually, the first few months of the season (or just about every tourney before the Masters) are often not much to write home about. I remember discussions about shortening the PGA Tour season by taking tourneys off the front and back end because football, basketball, and hockey are what people are really interested in during fall & winter. Many players opted out of these tourneys, and if there wasn't a great field, it didn't get a whole lot of coverage. Posted Apr 21 2011, 08:48 AM by Cathy Erickson
I was surprised to see that the PGA Tour has already played 17 events on its 2011 schedule. I mean, I guess if I looked at the calendar that would make complete sense, but it appears my brain isn't registering all of those tournaments and all of the very deserving winners. Granted, without the Golf Channel I'm not able to watch some of those first few tournaments on TV, but I play fantasy golf for pete's sake, you'd think I'd remember my great losing streak so far this year. With the Sony Open in its soggy state and no real golf news to share ( unless you want to talk about DJ and Natalie Gulbis) I've decided I'd better get out my 2011 prediction list before I miss any opportunities to be right! We always joke about the weather people up here...what other job do you know of where you can get paid to be wrong 50% of the time? While I don't get paid for giving my predictions (but I would accept any salary offered!), guessing on what will happen in the upcoming golf season is a pretty darn fun thing to do...and I'm happy to report that I'm about on par with how with the weather predictions in our neck of the woods in my past few years. I feel like the gates to golf success have flown wide open now that Tiger let the guards take a vacation. Guys are streaming in from all over the world to capture titles and even take their place on the top of the world ranking. A few years ago Tiger won 6 times...now we're wondering if he will win again. We've got veterans still out there trying to capture wins and we've got young guns eager to make a name for themselves and put a little money in their pocket. So many possibilities!! For the past 3 years, http://www.pgatour.com/ has done a Top 100 players to watch feature in December. It's a ranking, sort of, and also a listing of players who will garner the most attention in 2011. To me these are 2 very different things, and as I get ready to post my own 2011 predictions I thought I would do a quick review of the PGA Tour's list of their top 20, just to see how annoyed I get. There are 216 players in Florida right now on the verge of 6-day golf marathon...at the finish line are 25 PGA Tour Cards...for the next 50 there are Nationwide Tour Cards, and for the rest, a "conditional" status on the Nationwide Tour that could get them some playing time in 2011. But you know what they all want. They want to say "I'm on the PGA Tour in 2011". Posted Nov 11 2010, 12:08 PM by Cathy Erickson
You know I love Tees2Greens. But I have to admit that I do visit some other blogs and message boards because we just don't get the golf conversations, debates, and insights on a regular basis here. (of course I wouldn't trade 2Putt's contributions for the world!!) Many of the things I ponder and write about here come from those dialogues from other golfers around the web. What's been on my mind lately is a discussion about which players should be allowed on the PGA Tour. Posted Nov 04 2010, 06:16 PM by Cathy Erickson
I really hate it when Sam Johnson steals my topic ideas! It doesn't happen all that often since I don't eat, sleep, and dream about Tiger Woods (just kidding!), but you have to admit that the whole idea of being #1 in the world has become a realistic goal for any number of guys now that Tiger has relinquished the title after I don't know how long. The criteria to determine the #1 player on the "Official World Golf Ranking" may possibly be one of the most complex and argubly non-relevant calculations to come along in ages. The strangest thing is, it's based on a 2-year running average - which is why Tiger held on to the number one spot for weeks, months, after his game and personal life were on the sidelines. It's crazy, in a way...should it matter what a guy did 2 years ago to deterimine that he's the best as of today? I wrote about this somewhere in the forums, but all that I remember is that a guy can win and be outside of the top 50 and another guy can go a whole year without winning and still hangout in the top 25...heck, he can be #1!! We've hit the downward slide into November, and normally we're may-be following Q-school (and if you aren't you should - there are some Great stories there!) - but good heavens, all you have to do is browse some golf news...like Tees2Greens very own Golf International posts...and you'll see some big time golf stories...and it's November!! The other day I was out browsing some golf related web sites and I came across an article written by "Anonymous Pro" on http://www.golf.com/. The subject of the article was in regards to a new PGA Tour policy that will go into effect next year...and it wasn't about the new groove policy either. According to the post, players were emailed details about a new policy that will require players to "schmooze" at corporate sponsor events even if they don't play in the Pro-Am. AuthorWhen I found Tees2Greens website and forum I found a happy place. There were great people there and in 2009 they asked me if I wanted my own blog space. It was a dream come true!! The site is down now, but I was able to get all of my posts to be able to post here. I will always be grateful for all of the Tees2Greens folks!! ArchivesCategories
