It's late, and I just got done picking my players for the PGA Championship fantasy golf team. I've decided that I wanted to dedicate my golf thoughts this week to my favorite golfer, Steve Stricker. You know the story, a little jump start in the beginning of his career, then a slump, then hours of practice in the Wisconsin winters and before you know it he's comeback player of the year two years in a row!!
There's lots to love about Steve...he's not afraid to cry (just ask Peter Kostis!), he has a sweet putting stroke, his swing is simple yet powerful, and he's a Titleist guy! I believe in his character, he gives back to his community and to the golf world, and truly believe he appreciates every opportunity he's been given.
What surprises me most is that he doesn't have a major yet - he's had some great wins over the years, but one of the big ones has eluded him. I'm not sure what it is...a flat putter, a few errant shots or maybe the bounces were not going his way. I'm thinking back to his performances in the Ryder Cup and President's Cup and I see a leader and successful player - how has missed getting a major??
2011 has shown us all kinds of great players...the young guns, the grinders, and the calm, cool, and collected have all found their way to the trophy presentation come Sunday. Even though he has 2 wins this season ( the Memorial & the John Deere in case you forgot) this season is still missing something...and I think that something is the Wannamaker Trophy!! I know I've said this before, but I think this is his time - he's got the game, he's got the patience, and he's got the putter to get the job done...now it's just up to him to make it happen.
It's a busy weekend for me again, but you can bank on me having some serious couch time on Sunday...hopefully watching Steve Stricker claim his first Major.

When I found Tees2Greens website and forum I found a happy place. There were great people there and in 2009 they asked me if I wanted my own blog space. It was a dream come true!! The site is down now, but I was able to get all of my posts to be able to post here. I will always be grateful for all of the Tees2Greens folks!!
